DOES YOUR FACE MIRROR THE TRUE YOU?

I have a confession. I’m an upbeat, annoyingly happy person who LOVES to smile. In fact, my smile is often the first thing my friends compliment me on! But lately, I’ve noticed that my neutral facial expression occasionally doesn’t mirror that “cheerful” me. You may have heard of the phenomenon called RBFS or Relaxing Bitchy Face Syndrome. Well, I’m pretty sure I suffer from it (& apparently so do many celebrities)!

I first noticed it after a water exercise class in Mexico when my mom asked me, “What’s wrong?” The question caught me off guard because what could possibly be wrong when I’m in Cancun? But apparently, my face looked unhappy throughout the entire class. I couldn’t believe it, the whole time I was actually thinking this is such a great workout, I LOVE the sun! If you’re like me and you also suffer from RBFS, keep reading to learn a few tips to put your best face forward and turn this negative trait into a positive one!

Check out your facial expression. Get in the habit of routinely looking at yourself to see what “default” face you’re showing. Do you need to adjust your look?

Pay attention to what your “default” face feels like. Do your muscles relax into a natural frown or are your eyebrows tense?

Develop and practice a new resting expression. Aim for a positive and friendly persona. Maybe a slight smile or opening up your eyes a bit more will do the trick.

I know. It’s hard work to change your natural expression. But you know what they say, practice makes perfect. And if that’s not working, a little anti-wrinkle cream will eliminate those unwanted frown lines and creases in your forehead.

Be Yourself. Making a good and lasting first impression starts with being comfortable in your own skin. There’s nothing more beautiful than having the confidence to truly be you. Let that silliness shine through.

HOLIDAY HAIRSTYLE: FUN AND FESTIVE BOWS

Bows are not just for presents anymore! No matter your hair type, curly or straight, thick or thin, a bow could be the perfect addition to that fantastic holiday outfit! Keep reading to see my four favorite holiday bow hairstyles.

Soft curls (aka Victoria Secret Angel locks) are a gorgeous look for any holiday party. For this style, I used my curling wand and brushed out the curls to create these cascading waves. Once I had the curls set, I teased the hair around my face and then pulled it all back with the bow.

A sleek side do is always a great go-to holiday hairstyle. All you have to do is add a few soft curls to your hair, pull it to the side, and clip the bow right above your hairband. Super simple!

Want a more formal look? Try a high bun with a bow! Start by teasing the top of your hair to create more volume. Then, tilt your head upside down and make a messy bun. If you notice a few loose strands, tame them with hairspray and then top it off by clipping a medium sized bow just below the bun.

For a super simple and quick hairstyle, I love pulling back one side of my hair in a bow. For this, a smaller bow works best so it doesn’t over do the look.

BEAT YOUR WORKOUT BOREDOM

Happy Hump Day! If you couldn’t tell already, I’m kind of a fitness nut. But that’s not to say I absolutely love exercising all the time. Sweat dripping down my back, hot rosy cheeks and shortness of breath… makes me cringe just thinking about it. I’d much rather be spending the evening at home with my roommates sipping on wine while watching sappy movies! Exercising is hard! But, it is also important if you want to live a healthy lifestyle. Plus, the extra endorphins really make you feel good! The key? Make your workout fun so it doesn’t feel like work! My solution? Adding a medicine ball to my routine! Check it out below!

To start off, I do regular crunches on the medicine ball with my arms supporting my head. I do enough until I can start to feel the burn… and then I do ten more!

This move is my favorite! You want to start with the medicine ball above your head, about a foot from the ground.

With your body in a “V” shape, start to bring the medicine ball to meet your feet. At the same time, start lifting your legs until they reach the medicine ball. Once you can place the medicine ball in between your legs, squeeze and lower to the ground.

But, be sure not to let the ball touch the ground! To finish, raise your legs back up and repeat. After this move, you’ll be wishing it was still bikini season!

EIGHT THINGS “BEAUTY” I’M THANKFUL FOR

Sister. I love having a sister and couldn’t be more grateful for the friendship we share. We’ve always been super close. Plus, having a second closet to choose from when deciding what to wear is the best feeling ever! Did I also mention I’m thankful for her sharing abilities?!

Curling Wand. Having naturally curly hair is both a blessing and a curse. You never quite know how your curls are going to look in the morning. I can’t tell you how many times my curling wand has saved the day!

Coffee. When it comes to those unbearable 8 a.m classes, coffee is a god send. Not only does it make me appear more human, it acts as my most fashionable accessory on days when I’m rocking yoga pants and an over-sized sweatshirt.

Perfume. Silly I know, but smelling good just makes me happy. I love spraying on my own special scent in the morning or before heading out on that special date!

Shoes. I seriously can’t have enough shoes. Buying a new pair of shoes is like sampling Godiva Chocolates for the first time. Excitement takes over and nothing can stop you from indulging!

Chapstick. I hate to admit it, but I’m a more-than-occasional lip licker. End result… dry, irritated lips. Thank you chapstick for bringing back my smile!

Parents. I’ve learned so much from them over the years. One of the most important life lessons they have taught me, that I believe to be true, is that beauty starts from the inside. A kind, compassionate heart is a beautiful heart!

BRAVE BLACK FRIDAY WITH CONFIDENCE

Black Friday, aka the ultimate shopping day of the year, is right around the corner. If you’re anything like me, you’ve already been gearing up for the excitement.  Check out my top Black Friday shopping tips so you can survive the most fabulous shopping day of the year!

Wear Comfy Clothing.  Since you will most likely be doing quite a bit of walking, it’s probably smart to ditch the three-inch high heels and long, bulky trench coat. Instead, try a less high maintenance but still stylish look by wearing a cute shirt, sweater, leggings, and equestrian boots!

Simplify Your Beauty Routine. Remember, today is all about scoring deals…not guys ladies! For this most sacred of shopping days, all you really need are these three products:

Cleanser: Not even Black Friday can get in the way of my strict skin care routine. Before heading out to the malls, it’s important to use a cleanser to start the day. I’ll be using my Enza Essentials Sustaining Cleanser to keep my skin looking fresh for hours…and hours!

Eyebright Anti-Puffiness Gel: If you’re an early bird shopper like me, this will be your savior as your 4:00 a.m. alarm goes off. Before leaving the house, swipe on some anti-puffiness gel to hide those tired eyes and you’ll be ready to shop till you drop!

Foundation:  Indulge in a few too many glasses of wine Thanksgiving night and wake up with dry, irritated skin? Don’t panic! That way I can spend less time re-applying and more time buying!

Bring a Snack: In the midst of all the chaos and long lines, the last thing you want to be feeling is “hangry.”  Bringing a healthy snack will not only help lift your mood, it will also make it easier to pass on that 500+ calorie, sugar-packed croissant from Starbucks!

Avoid Dressing Rooms Like the Plague. I know. There are always those items that pop up on Black Friday that you absolutely fall in love with. But, do you really want to try on 10 items when you have 15 more stores to hit? Tip: try on whatever you can before Black Friday so you can purchase the perfect fitting piece in a fraction of the time.
