As a Wisconsin girl, I am always in need of a really good moisturizer as the colder months draw near. My go-to fix? Enza Essential’s Shea Body Butter! It is extremely hydrating and full of powerful antioxidants that turn my dry, alligator looking legs into smooth works of art. Speaking of amazing legs, did you see my post about Carrie Underwood at the CMA’s last week? Unlike other oils and moisturizers, it soaks into my skin quickly, leaving it silky smooth and not greasy!

Ever since I started using it, I have become obsessed! Even my driest skin areas like elbows and knees are ridiculously soft. I even started using it on my lips for extra hydration! Sound weird? Seriously give it a try! With just one use of this product, you can say goodbye to redness, rough skin, and peeling! Needless to say, this Shea Body Butter will be my savior as the cold starts to cause my skin to flake.

It’s getting to be that time of year again – tights season. If you’re like me, tights are your go-to when the temperature dips down near the freezing mark. They can transform a summer dress into a fall outfit in the blink of an eye. But as we know all too well, just as you arrive to your favorite restaurant on date night, you glance down to find a run the length of the Great Wall of China down the back of your calf. If you don’t want this disaster to happen again, you better make room in the freezer.

Yes, that’s right – freezing your tights can protect them from getting runs. It sounds crazy, but hear me out: The next time you buy a new pair (and before you wear them), run them under water until they’re slightly damp (don’t completely soak them). Then place them in a plastic bag and freeze overnight. Take them out and give them a day to defrost and thaw out.

The best part? You only need to do this once – after that, you’re good to go. The cold temps firm and strengthen the individual fibers of your tights, making them less susceptible to runs later on.

Will you try this? -xo Kayla

It may seem like a pretty straightforward concept – squirt some cleanser into your hands, scrub your face, rinse with water, and dry off. Most of us do this everyday (hopefully twice a day!) and don’t put too much thought or effort into it. But, there actually are a few face-washing mistakes that many of us do every time we begin our skin care routine. Keep reading to find out if you’re guilty of any!

Mistake #1: Your hands are dirty.

It may seem silly, but before you wash your face, you NEED to wash your hands. In fact, you shouldn’t even think about touching your face without freshly-cleansed hands ever. It’s so important to expose your face to as little bacteria as possible, and we all know how nasty our hands can be.

Mistake #2: The water is too hot.

Since cooler weather is quickly approaching, it’s very tempting to use hot water when washing your face. Truth is, hot water washes away skin’s protective oils, leaving it dry, tight, and itchy. Instead, use lukewarm water – the lower temperature is much less harsh on your delicate skin.

Mistake #3: You’re only washing once.

When you only wash your face once, you’re really only cleansing the dirt, makeup, and bacteria that’s on the surface of your skin. To get an even deeper clean, wash a second time to get the oil and bacteria that’s hiding down in your pores. I cleanse my skin twice every night with my Extraction Cleanser – it leaves my skin feeling amazing.

Mistake #4: You’re not following up.

So you’ve taken my advice above and correctly washed your face – great job! But, is that all you’re doing? Cleansing just provides a blank canvas for the rest of your skincare regimen. Even if you’re extremely low-maintenance, be sure to follow up with a toner (to balance skin tone and minimize pores) and a moisturizer for your best skin possible.

Are you committing any of these cleansing crimes? -xo Kayla

Some mornings, we wake up and don’t look quite as good as we would like to. I know, I know, life just isn’t fair. But, there’s no reason why you should have to feel that way about your skin when it’s time to start your day! Read my tips on how to feel fabulous when you say “I woke up like this.”

Use an extra pillow. To avoid puffy eyes in the morning, tuck an extra pillow under your head at night. This will help prevent fluid build-up around your eyes, causing those serious bags that definitely are not designer. Another tip? Use Enza Essentials Eyebright Anti-Puffiness Gelee to cool any puffiness.

Do a double cleanse. Ever since I started doing this with my Extraction Cleanser, I’ve noticed a serious improvement in my skin. When you wash your face just once, it only removes the stuff on the surface like makeup and sweat. When you cleanse your skin of those things AND THEN wash it again, you’re actually cleansing deep down into your pores – which will give you your best skin yet.

Extraction Cleanser

Be sure to cleanse twice!

Get steamy. Sleeping with a humidifier in your room will give you hydrated, healthy, and plump-looking skin. The extra steam will moisturize pores throughout the night, making you look refreshed and glowing in the morning!

Salt Eye Gelee

Watch the salt. Although it adds flavor to your favorite foods, sodium is known for stealing the water out of your skin – a SERIOUS tragedy. When your skin is dehydrated, you’ll wake up in the morning looking super tired and puffy – no one wants that. If you stay away from salty snacks, white bread, and processed foods, you’ll be sure to love what you look like every single morning.

It’s a Wednesday night – you’ve had a long day. As you’re doing your nighttime skin care routine, you notice a fine line on your forehead staring back at you in the mirror. You immediately FREAK out and realize that your youthful skin days are over. Guess what? There is absolutely no reason to worry or panic! After you find your first (don’t say it!) fine line, here’s what to do:

Moisturize. Even though lathering on a moisturizer won’t erase the line totally,  keeping it hydrated can definitely help reduce the appearance of it. Soft, smooth skin creates an irresistible look on any skin type, so be sure to keep skin very rejuvenated and replenished. Try moisturizing with Enza Essentials Saturation Herbal Creme – it will repair cells and help prevent further signs of aging.

Protect. I know I sound like a broken record, but using sunscreen every day is the BEST way to prevent that pesky little wrinkle from getting any worse. Applying SPF every morning and throughout the day as needed not only will moisturize that line fine, but keep your skin from getting any more wrinkles.

Saturation Herbal Creme

Treat. Once you find that annoying fine line, it’s so important to treat it. Using a lightweight cream or serum in your daily skin care routine will benefit you greatly, especially one that doesn’t weigh you down. I love using the Glycolic Serum morning and night to slough off dead skin and help reduce fine lines and age spots.

Prevent. When it comes to anti-aging, you are never to young to start preventing early signs. And once you see that first wrinkle, you’ll wish you’d started protecting your skin years ago. Be sure to get on a skin care regimen that works for your skin, do it morning and night, and stick with it. You’ve been told over and over again – wear sunscreen everyday. Whether you’re going to be inside or outside, it’s so important that you lather a moisturizing SPF lotion onto your skin each morning (and throughout the day as needed). But, sometimes it goes wrong and ooops – you’re bringing home a handful of seashells and a bright red sunburn. If you’re feeling the burn today after the holiday weekend, keep reading to find some helpful tips to get your skin back on track.

  • Hydrate by drinking extra water and other fluids to replenish the moisture in your skin. When you develop a sunburn, your skin is not only dehydrated but your body can suffer from dehydration, too. You want to keep the rest of your skin looking dewy and bright!
  • Moisturize skin as often as you can. Enza Essentials Nutri-Gel is amazing at relieving sunburn, as it’s loaded with aloe vera, chamomile and antioxidant-rich vitamins. Apply it as soon as you step out of the shower while your skin is still damp – this will help trap the moisture into your skin. Another tip? Keep your Nutri-Gel in your fridge for an added cooling effect.
  • Medicate by taking a dose of ibuprofen as soon as you see signs of sunburn and do this for the next 48 hours. This will help cut back on the swelling and redness and may even prevent some long-term skin damage.
  • Leave blisters alone and be sure not to pop them, as this can make the sunburn worse. Allow the blisters to heal and protect you from infection.
  • Take extra care in the future by ALWAYS applying sunscreen on your precious skin. Not only will wearing SPF keep your skin from getting burned again, but will help keep it looking young and wrinkle-free. Prevention is key!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun weekend! -xo Kayla

Happy 4th of July weekend, loves! I hope you get to enjoy the holiday weekend with family, friends, good food, and great weather. I’m traveling up to my cabin for the holiday weekend and can’t wait to see everyone! And enjoy some much-needed R&R next to the lake… 🙂 Here are some of my favorite Independence Day things!

This entire outfit is SO cute for the holiday! And I’m having serious hair envy – her locks are gorgeous! Paired with this American flag bandana, I’m obsessing over this entire look.

Ummm, can you say “nail goals?” These are the most adorable and festive nails EVER. I’m in love. And how cute is the anchor?! Seriously dying over here. I may have to make a quick stop at the nail salon…

Don’t forget to grab your SPF this weekend! Since I’ll be on the lake all weekend, it’s necessary that I wear my Advanced Protection SPF 30 at all times and reapply as needed. I don’t want to bring a nasty sunburn home with me!

SKINTIP: If you do get a sunburn this weekend, try using Enza Essentials Nutri-Gel. Loaded with aloe vera and vitamins, this hydrating gel gives you instant sunburn relief. Keep it in the fridge for an extra cooling effect!

This stars and stripes sweater needs to be in my life. Like, now. It looks so comfy and cute! I found a similar one here at Old Navy for only $17.50.

You can’t celebrate the 4th of July without eating a huge slice of watermelon – I’m sorry, you just can’t. Such a yummy snack, you literally can’t go wrong with this juicy fruit. Not only does it hydrate you but also keeps your skin looking fabulous, too! Be sure to put this summer snack on your grocery list.

What are your plans for the weekend? -xo Kayla

In my opinion, everything is a little better during summertime. The weather, clothes, activities – even the snacks! It seriously doesn’t get any better than summer. And, we all know how important it is to protect our skin on the outside, but putting the right foods in our body is just as necessary. Be sure to eat lots of these tasty summer snacks over the next few months!

The name says it all – WATERmelon. Being made up of approximately 90% water, this refreshing fruit will be sure to give your skin a hydrated glow. Eating watermelon gives your complexion the antioxidants it needs to calm, tone and regenerate your skin. Seedless or not, be sure to pick one up on your next trip to the grocery store!

Summer is a great time to enjoy the beach, which means that seafood – especially salmon – will be nearby. The omega-3 fatty acids in salmon are a key component to skin elasticity, causing your skin to be much firmer and tighter, while making skin appear dewy and plump. I know what I’m ordering for dinner tonight!

Citrus fruits

Oranges, grapefruits, lemons, limes – pretty much any citrus fruit out there is amazing for your skin. The powerful antioxidant vitamin C helps protect skin against sun damage and skin cancer.  This awesome vitamin can curb some of the destructive effects of free radicals, which are molecules that break down collagen and harm your skin. It’s also a fabulous idea to use a serum or cream containing vitamin c – you’ll skin will become brighter and much more vibrant.

Ahhhhhh – nothing beats that crisp and cool moment of biting into a cucumber slice on a hot summer day. Not only are they super healthy in general, but they’re beyond amazing for skin, too! This tasty veggie hydrates and replenishes thirsty skin. You can also put slices on your eyes to relieve any puffiness for instant relief.

*SKINTIP: For added relief of puffy eyes, use Enza Essentials Eyebright Anti-Puffiness Gelee.

Oh my gosh – it’s Friday! As I’m sitting here writing this, I honestly can’t believe it’s June already. I don’t want to waste a single second of these summer months! I’ve come up with a summer checklist that I’m going to follow (yes, I mean it!) to make this summer a memorable and healthy one.

Drink lots of water.

I am very aware of how important drinking 8 glasses of water a day is, so why would I not do it? Although some days are easier than others, drinking lots of water every day is something I NEED to be doing, especially during these hot summer months. Plus, I want great skin!

Try a tinted moisturizer.

Summer is the perfect time to ditch the heavy foundations and try something a little more lightweight. Tinted moisturizers are fabulous for letting skin breathe throughout the day – no one wants melty makeup when it’s 80 degrees out. Jane Iredale’s Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer has just the right amount of coverage, yet my natural skin can still shine through.

I have SERIOUS hair envy at Lucy Hale with her super chic lob.

Change up my locks.

I’m not 100% sure I’m going to cross this one off my bucket list this summer, but I just may try! Nothing freshens a girl up like a new ‘do, especially one that’s dramatically different than her normal, everyday hair. Maybe I’ll chop a few inches off (or 10) and get a super cute lob cut?

Wear SPF everyday.

I know I sound like a broken record, but protecting skin from sun damage should be on everyone’s to-do list this summer. I need to promise myself that I WILL wear my Enza Essentials Advanced Protection SPF 30 Moisturizer every single day, even the cloudy ones. I want to keep fine lines, wrinkles, and brown spots away as long as possible, so this is a must for me.

Have a fabulous weekend! -xo Kayla
