APPLY YOUR EYELINER LIKE A PRO WITH THESE THREE TIPS

Remember the first time you started using make-up? Did your eyes take on the appearance of a raccoon or your cheeks look like an abstract painting gone bad? Thinking back to my 13-year old self, I cringe at my somewhat horrifying make-up journey. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to look at those utterly embarrassing throwback pictures! My biggest mistake back then? A heavy dose of eyeliner. Thankfully I’ve learned a thing or two about natural beauty – and can appreciate the art of subtle eyeliner. Keep reading to make sure your flicks are on fleek!

1. Buy the right products

Do your research! What brand of eyeliner will last the entire day and go on effortlessly? My personal favorite is Jane Iredale’s Black eye pencil – simple and sleek with one smooth application.

2. Sit down for the perfect angle

Find a comfortable chair, take a seat and then place a mirror on your lap. While looking slightly down at the mirror, carefully apply your eyeliner in the groove between your lashes and lash line. You won’t believe how easy it is and how amazing it looks!

3. Keep it light on your lower lashes

Unless you’re the lead singer in a heavy metal band, avoid applying a lower lash line that is too thick. For more natural and soft definition, apply a short stroke of color under the outer corner of your lower lashes. Finish it off with a smudging brush, blending the liner in toward the center.

Lastly, it’s important to keep the skin around your eye looking smooth. To eliminate those highly annoying fine lines, use Enza Essential’s Eyebright Intensive Eye Crème.

EIGHT THINGS “BEAUTY” I’M THANKFUL FOR

 

Sister. I love having a sister and couldn’t be more grateful for the friendship we share. We’ve always been super close. Plus, having a second closet to choose from when deciding what to wear is the best feeling ever! Did I also mention I’m thankful for her sharing abilities?!

Curling Wand. Having naturally curly hair is both a blessing and a curse. You never quite know how your curls are going to look in the morning. I can’t tell you how many times my curling wand has saved the day!

Coffee. When it comes to those unbearable 8 a.m classes, coffee is a god send. Not only does it make me appear more human, it acts as my most fashionable accessory on days when I’m rocking yoga pants and an over-sized sweatshirt.

Perfume. Silly I know, but smelling good just makes me happy. I love spraying on my own special scent in the morning or before heading out on that special date!

Enza Products. I’m so grateful for ALL of my Enza Products and for the confidence they have given me to put my best face forward every day. Pimple free equals a happier me!

Shoes. I seriously can’t have enough shoes. Buying a new pair of shoes is like sampling Godiva Chocolates for the first time. Excitement takes over and nothing can stop you from indulging!

Chapstick. I hate to admit it, but I’m a more-than-occasional lip licker. End result… dry, irritated lips. Thank you chapstick for bringing back my smile!

Parents. I’ve learned so much from them over the years. One of the most important life lessons they have taught me, that I believe to be true, is that beauty starts from the inside. A kind, compassionate heart is a beautiful heart!

KICK BACK IN FALL’S HOTTEST TREND…THE VERSATILE BUT CHIC BOOT

Whatever your fashion style…classic, edgy or striking…boots are the perfect item to polish off that stylish outfit. Why are boots an absolute must-have this season? They can turn even the most plain outfit into a stunning success! On chillier days, they make dresses and skirts wearable. And, with so many options to choose from, they’re the perfect item to show off your own personal style.  

Be on your best boot game this season! Find your own unique look and you’ll cause heads to turn — in a good way!

The Classic: Slim, high-heeled boots. Find a pair that is fitted around your leg, but not so tight that your skin bulges from the top. Tip: there shouldn’t be more than a half inch of space between your leg and your boot. These look beautiful when paired with a sweater dress and tights.

The Casual: Flat, equestrian boots. Running errands? These cute boots are not only comfortable, they’re super easy to slip on with your favorite pair of jeans. Top it off with a cozy sweater, throw on a statement necklace and you’re set!

The Chic: Ankle bootie. For an ultramodern look, dress up your favorite pair of jeans with these adorable booties. But, make sure you’re wearing them the right way! Instead of tucking your jeans into the booties, roll them up a couple times for a much more flattering look! 

The Show Stopper: Thigh-high boots. Cause a sensation when you walk in a room with these high-fashion boots. Pair it with a mini-skirt and tights for an even more dramatic effect. A perfect cold weather date outfit!

WHY YOU SHOULD FREEZE YOUR TIGHTS

It’s getting to be that time of year again – tights season. If you’re like me, tights are your go-to when the temperature dips down near the freezing mark. They can transform a summer dress into a fall outfit in the blink of an eye. But as we know all too well, just as you arrive to your favorite restaurant on date night, you glance down to find a run the length of the Great Wall of China down the back of your calf. If you don’t want this disaster to happen again, you better make room in the freezer.

Yes, that’s right – freezing your tights can protect them from getting runs. It sounds crazy, but hear me out: The next time you buy a new pair (and before you wear them), run them under water until they’re slightly damp (don’t completely soak them). Then place them in a plastic bag and freeze overnight. Take them out and give them a day to defrost and thaw out.

The best part? You only need to do this once – after that, you’re good to go. The cold temps firm and strengthen the individual fibers of your tights, making them less susceptible to runs later on.

BEST IN BEAUTY: MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS 2015

In case you missed it, last night aired the MTV Video Music Awards and it was definitely a night to remember! The Red Carpet was filled with beachy waves, cat eyes, and unforgettable attire. Here are my 5 favorite beauty looks of the night:

1. Lily Aldridge

If there was a category for best beach waves at the award show, Lily would obviously take home the gold. Her effortless waves and natural makeup look amazing with this black plunging gown. I cannot get over how bright her skin is, too! She looks like a slightly sun-kissed goddess. To get a bronze glow like Lily’s without the damage, try Jane Iredale’s Tantasia ($36, janeiredale.com).

2. Taylor Swift

Taylor, oh how I envy you. My girl was looking fierce as ever last night with this sleek ponytail and heavy winged liner. Although I love Tay’s classic red lip and loose waves look that she is known for, it was refreshing to see her edgier side on the Red Carpet. And her skin is ALWAYS spot on – so clear and even without a blemish in sight! I read that she applies SPF every single day to keep wrinkles and sun spots away.

3. Cara Delevingne

The Paper Towns star is known for her unique style and fashion trends and she certainly didn’t disappoint in that category last night. Also, no one can rock a deep side part quite like Cara can – am I right? Her bold brows and smoky eyes looked stunning at the award show, and her skin was my favorite part of all – her skin is always so hydrated! Be sure to keep your skin moisturized for a flawless finish like Cara’s.

4. Karlie Kloss

If summertime beauty was a person, it’d be Karlie. The model looked gorgeous in this tangerine embellished dress and tousled locks. I’m happy she kept her makeup to a minimum – she obviously was going for the radiantly natural look.

5. Kylie Jenner

I don’t know about you, but these blunt bangs are making me seriously consider getting a haircut soon. Kylie’s jet black ‘do and thick cat eye looked fab on the Red Carpet last night. Her dark lip and gorgeous skin helped to make this an unforgettable beauty look of the evening.

FAVORITE JANE IREDALE MAKEUP BRUSHES

Makeup brushes can be a little overwhelming, even for a beauty guru. There are so many shapes, sizes, and textures to pick from, so I feel like it’s important to know what other people are loving. I’m really into Jane Iredale makeup brushes.. they’re AMAZING! Here are my three favorites:

The Handi Brush can make every powder or blush look good. It’s small enough to hold comfortably in your hand, while still big enough for an even application. It feels great when brushed on my skin because it’s made of hand-tied goat hair, making it perfect for powder makeup. My pressed powder is always smooth and even after I’ve applied it using The Handi brush. Or maybe it’s from using my Fine Facial Polish twice a week?

The Eye Shader is beyond amazing. This brush is perfect for applying eye makeup. It’s made of pony hair, so it’s super soft and feels great on my delicate eyelids. I use this brush to apply shadow onto my lids because the size and shape of it works great with my eyelids. I also sometimes use it on the outside corners of my eyes for a splash of color when I’m going out for a night on the town!

The Crease Brush. Seriously, every girl needs this brush in her life. It’s very soft and is designed specifically to fit into the crease of the eye. It always gives me just the right amount of dark shadow in between my eyelid and brow bone and also works fantastic for blending the shadows together. I’m obsessed with this brush!

JULY INSPIRATIONS

I seriously can’t believe today is the last day of July – where did this month go?! Today I’m rounding up a few of my favorite things from the last 4 weeks, enjoy!
