Although braids never really go out of style, big and voluminous ones are certainly in the trending spotlight. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with lusciously thick locks to create this look (I’m looking at you, Blake Lively!) If your hair is a bit on the finer side, here are some tips and tricks to get you your fullest braid yet!

Tease Hair

Add some texture. First of all, second day hair is the absolute BEST for creating a beautiful braid – freshly washed hair is less than idea for this look. When it hasn’t been washed recently, it has more grip and texture. If you need, throw in a few loose curls to create some added texture. And don’t worry about making it look pretty – it doesn’t have to be neat.

Dry Shampoo

Make it dirty. When trying to create a big braid, dirty hair is your BFF. Grab your dry shampoo or texturizing spray/powder and apply it all over. Like I said earlier, this will help with grip and overall volume. I always tease my hair at the crown, too, for an extra big hair look.

Mess it up. Once you’ve finished braiding your hair and secured the end with an elastic, pull the braid apart. Starting at the bottom of the braid, gently grab the loops on the left and right side and pull outward, doing so all the way to the top. This will give you that messy, undone look rather than a sleek, tight look.

We’ve all been there – you’re having a solid hair day until you hit the gym. You don’t even want to step back out in public after that sweaty workout! Luckily, I have a few tips for fabulous-looking hair after every single workout.

Spray your scalp and around your hairline with dry shampoo before you start exercising – this will help soak up the sweat that’s about to happen. Prevention is key, ladies!

If you have long hair, be sure to get it off your neck and forehead by twisting it up into a topknot of the crown of your head. Try braiding it before you secure it with your elastic – this way, when you take it out post workout, you’ll have loose, beachy waves.

Speaking of beach waves, try spritzing a salt spray in your locks and scrunch. The alcohol in most formulas help sweat evaporate. The effortless look is always in!

By now, you probably have your favorite beauty products lined up on your vanity that you consistently use on the regular. We all do! But, sometimes we need a little extra guidance in the beauty department, so I’ve come up with a list of 3 beauty products that you NEED to start using.

If this product isn’t in your morning and evening skin care routine, what have you been doing?! The truth about toner is quite simple – you need it. Not only does it wipe away dirt, oil and makeup that you didn’t totally clean off your face, but it brightens and balances your skin too. And we all could use a little more balance in our lives, right?

Lip Scrub.

Everyone wants soft and kissable lips, so why not invest in an amazing lip scrub? Your lipstick will go on smoother and your pout will look more plump – it’s a win-win! I’m obsessed with my Sugar & Butter Lip Exfoliator/Plumper from Jane Iredale. My lips feel like heaven after I use it!

Dry Shampoo.

Not only does this fabulous beauty product cut down on your getting-ready time, but it also is much better for your hair! Did you know that you’re supposed to wash your locks every OTHER day, not every day?? Dry shampoo helps savor your color, volume, and the strength of your strands – you definitely want to invest in this stuff.

Back to school season is officially upon us! Wow, I cannot believe that this is my last semester of college and I will be graduating in December – it seems like just yesterday I was a freshman! This back to school season is bittersweet for me because I can’t believe I’m closing one chapter, but at the same time I’m SO excited to start the next one! So, if you’re headed off to the dorms or just need a few tips, I’ve got you covered for your BTS beauty essentials:

Moisturizer. Dry, flaky skin is NEVER a good back to school look (or any other time for that matter). Even if you’re rushing around before class, remember to always apply moisturizer with SPF for healthy looking skin all day long. Advanced Protection SPF 30 works fab on all skin types and does a great job protecting your precious skin.

Eye Cream. Being a college student myself, I have LOTS of experience getting very little sleep and waking up early the next morning. When this happens, dark under eye circles and puffy bags will start to appear and that’s probably the last thing you want when you have a coffee/study date with the cute guy who sits next to you in biology. Enza’s Eyebright Anti-Puffiness Gelee is an amazing quick fix when you need it.

Dry Shampoo. Honestly, who has time to wash, dry, and style their hair everyday?? Back to school time means crazy busy time, so it’s like a tiny miracle when a product can help you out. Plus, dry shampoo gives your locks intense volume so you’ll get an A+ in the hair department.

Shine Control. Since the beginning of a school year is still fairly warm and classrooms can be pretty muggy, it’s a must to keep your skin looking amazing and makeup in place. Shine Control mattifies your skin and controls shine that appears midday. Just apply this lightweight lotion before you put your makeup on and you’ll have nothing to worry about!

Concealer. When your complexion isn’t as lovely as you’d like it to be, concealer can be your best friend during back to school season. Jane Iredale’s Disappear Concealer with Green Tea Extract is fantastic at concealing blemishes and dark circles. A little goes a long ways so a tube will last you almost all year.

Spot Extractor. Back to school can be a stressful time for many (including me!) so a pimple or two is likely to appear at the most inconvenient time. The Spot Extractor is one of my FAVORITE products and I literally carry it with me everywhere. This salicylic acid spot treatment works on contact with blemishes when you need an immediate fix. It really is a life saver!

Bachelorette parties are known for endless laughs, fruity drinks, girl talk, fabulous dresses, and lots of pictures. And I mean LOTS of pictures. So if you want to look your best in the hundreds of photos that will be immediately uploaded to every social media account, grab these beauty essentials for a weekend you won’t forget!

Sunscreen. Since you should be wearing SPF every single day, this is obviously a must no matter where you and the girls are headed. If you’ll be spending your days at the beach, remember to reapply as needed – sunburned red will NOT compliment that mint-colored bodycon dress. Try Advanced Protection SPF 30 – it protects against UV rays and is an awesome moisturizer.

Face Wash. It is SO necessary to wash your face before crawling into bed at night. And if you want your skin to look amazing in all those pictures, then you must wash off the makeup, dirt, and oil that has been clogging your pores all day. I love using my Sustaining Cleanser to wash my face every night. It’s so gentle on my skin while giving me the deep cleanse that I need.

Dry Shampoo. If this stuff isn’t your BFF already, I’m honestly not sure how you’re getting by. Since you’ll be wanting to spend all your time chit-chatting over drinks with the ladies, blow-drying your hair will only be a hassle. Plus, dry shampoo gives hair fantastic volume so you’ll be looking like a rockstar all night.

Nail Polish. If there’s one thing I can guarantee that will happen at any bachelorette party, it’s an Instagrammed photo of all the girls clinking their glasses together with a caption reading “Cheers to the soon-to-be bride!” Do you really want your nail polish to look anything less than perfection? Pack a color that closely matches your mani for any last-minute chips that may happen.

Eye Shadow. Bachelorette parties are hands-down one of the best places to wear anything glittery, bedazzled or bright, so super fun eye makeup is a must! Jane Iredale has 24-Karat Gold Dust that catches the eye like no other – you can dust it onto your lids, cheeks, or even lips for a flawless and fun shimmery look. And it comes in 6 colors!

Eye Cream. A bachelorette party isn’t something you attend if you’re looking to get a good night’s sleep. There’ll be very late nights followed by early mornings, so an eye cream is an essential. Try Enza’s EyeBright Anti-Puffiness Gelee to help soothe puffy and tired under-eye skin.
