I am so excited to be recognized by a national talk show and honored that they would look to us as experts on skincare and how to stop the clock. I’ve always been a fan of The Balancing Act, especially since they acquired Julie Moran because I used to watch her on Entertainment Tonight!
It was super exciting to be filming for a national show on Lifetime. I had filmed before for The Buzz for the Academy Awards in Los Angeles and also did a short on-camera interview with Lucky Magazine at their FABB East Coast last fall, and this was definitely a different experience!
When The Balancing Act approached us several months ago, we had several conversations with the producers on skincare and ways to slow time in terms of aging so that we could put together a segment that made sense and was useful for all of their viewers. I was excited that filming was going to be in Florida, especially because of the Polar Vortex that has been taking place! So we filmed in Pompano Beach and the weather was pretty good – just a little windy.
The first night we were there, we stayed at a very nice hotel that was right on the beach. The night was mostly for relaxing and getting ready for the big day! But of course we had to walk on the beach. 🙂
I woke up at 7 am because we had to be at the studio at 9. (I had my oatmeal when I got up! – in my coffee) The producer told me that there was going to be a makeup artist, so it was only a matter of just showering, but what they didn’t tell me was that there was NOT a hair stylist!! So I was a little panicky when I was having my makeup done and Julie Moran is sitting next to me looking SO glamorous. I had to just leave my hair straight and call it good! For my makeup, I definitely wanted to be as natural as I could be, but with the lights and the way the cameras work they wanted to brighten me up with lipstick and blush – and that took about a half an hour.
For the outfit, they gave us a few guidelines for what looks good on camera, so I knew to stick with jewel-toned colors. I brought three dresses, but the one I decided on – it was so funny, because I walked in and there’s Julie in a dress that was very similar! So I felt like I did alright! 🙂
We started filming about 9:45 am, and because we had talked several times before the actual filming, being in front of the camera went pretty fast. Julie is such a pro and makes you feel comfortable. We were talking about what we loved, so it was very natural. We did a few takes and Dr. Rucker, with all of his knowledge, could talk forever, so we really only had to re-do it in order to keep it concise. It really only took two takes! The only glitch in the filming was that we had to stop a few times to powder Dr. Rucker’s bald head down because it was glistening! Haha!!
Filming wrapped around 11 am and we taped the pre-roll and just chitchatted for a while. Afterwards, we met with the producer again and went over the plan of when it would air, how many times it would air, and how our fans could find us on The Balancing Act website so we could share the episode with them.
Overall it was a super exciting experience – the lights, the camera, sitting next to Julie and really sharing our passion – it’s just what we love to do 🙂
We hope you tune in to our special on Lifetime’s The Balancing Act on Tuesday, March 25th at 6:00 AM CST!
