Although braids never really go out of style, big and voluminous ones are certainly in the trending spotlight. Unfortunately, not all of us are blessed with lusciously thick locks to create this look (I’m looking at you, Blake Lively!) If your hair is a bit on the finer side, here are some tips and tricks to get you your fullest braid yet!

Tease Hair

Add some texture. First of all, second day hair is the absolute BEST for creating a beautiful braid – freshly washed hair is less than idea for this look. When it hasn’t been washed recently, it has more grip and texture. If you need, throw in a few loose curls to create some added texture. And don’t worry about making it look pretty – it doesn’t have to be neat.

Dry Shampoo

Make it dirty. When trying to create a big braid, dirty hair is your BFF. Grab your dry shampoo or texturizing spray/powder and apply it all over. Like I said earlier, this will help with grip and overall volume. I always tease my hair at the crown, too, for an extra big hair look.

Mess it up. Once you’ve finished braiding your hair and secured the end with an elastic, pull the braid apart. Starting at the bottom of the braid, gently grab the loops on the left and right side and pull outward, doing so all the way to the top. This will give you that messy, undone look rather than a sleek, tight look.

If you’re like me, sometimes you want to spice up your average, everyday ponytail – hair is supposed to be fun, right? Here’s a super simple way to take your pony to the next level:

First, start by gathering a ponytail (a lower one looks better with this particular style), leaving a section of hair on each side in the front loose.

Separate the loose hair on the left side of your head into a top section and bottom section and grab the top section.

Next, cross that section of hair over to the right side of your head, above your ponytail. Pin it with a bobby pin, letting the tail (if there is one) hang down.

Do the same with the right side of loose hair – grab the top section and cross it over to the left side of your ponytail, grabbing the hanging tail along the way. Secure with another bobby pin. Following me so far? 🙂

Then, take the remaining section of hair on your left side and cross over your ponytail again, grabbing the tail (if you have one) hanging down and securing it with a bobby pin on the right side of your pony.

Finally, take the remaining section of hair and do the same thing. If your tail is short, just pin the end under your ponytail. Otherwise, wrap the tail around your elastic and pin the end underneath for an extra chic effect, like I did above.

There you have it – a quick and fabulous ponytail in just a few minutes! -xo Kayla

If you’re looking for a new hair trend to try this summer, look no further! I have a list of my favorite current hairstyles that are making a huge statement this summer. Keep reading to find one for you!

Lauren Conrad looking fab as ever with her lob haircut.

Even though the lob isn’t new, it still gives me serious hair envy. So chic yet fun, this cut looks good on pretty much everyone. I hope this hair trend never goes out of style..

If you’re missing the days of top-knots, this ‘do is definitely for you. The half-up top-knot is seen everywhere in the beauty industry – from beauty blogs, Red Carpets, and runways, they’re all over. The best part? It’s SO easy to create. Even JLo is diggin’ this style!

Highlights are out and babylights are in. This color is known to resemble effortlessly sun-kissed hair by naturally highlighting fine-woven strands. If you hate going to the salon every 4-6 months, this color is for you. Regrowth is VERY subtle—making it the perfect look for the non-committal.

All over layers are especially hot this summer. Cool and classic, this style is great for any hair type. The more wispy the layers, the better! Karlie Kloss is known for rocking these locks.

Scarlett Johannson and her seriously adorable cut.

As the pixie cut is becoming more and more popular, I can’t help but love a side-swept bang with it. This style can truly brighten your face and show off your best feature – your skin! Although I don’t think I’m going to chop off my locks anytime soon, I absolutely adore this look, especially for summer.

Are you going to try any of these summer hair styles? -xo Kayla
