APPLY YOUR EYELINER LIKE A PRO WITH THESE THREE TIPS

Remember the first time you started using make-up? Did your eyes take on the appearance of a raccoon or your cheeks look like an abstract painting gone bad? Thinking back to my 13-year old self, I cringe at my somewhat horrifying make-up journey. I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to look at those utterly embarrassing throwback pictures! My biggest mistake back then? A heavy dose of eyeliner. Thankfully I’ve learned a thing or two about natural beauty – and can appreciate the art of subtle eyeliner. Keep reading to make sure your flicks are on fleek!

  1. Buy the right products

Do your research! What brand of eyeliner will last the entire day and go on effortlessly? My personal favorite is Jane Iredale’s Black eye pencil – simple and sleek with one smooth application.

eyeliner2

  1. Sit down for the perfect angle

Find a comfortable chair, take a seat and then place a mirror on your lap. While looking slightly down at the mirror, carefully apply your eyeliner in the groove between your lashes and lash line. You won’t believe how easy it is and how amazing it looks!

eyeliner

  1. Keep it light on your lower lashes

Unless you’re the lead singer in a heavy metal band, avoid applying a lower lash line that is too thick. For more natural and soft definition, apply a short stroke of color under the outer corner of your lower lashes. Finish it off with a smudging brush, blending the liner in toward the center.

Lastly, it’s important to keep the skin around your eye looking smooth. To eliminate those highly annoying fine lines, use Enza Essential’s Eyebright Intensive Eye Crème.

ARE YOU WASHING YOUR FACE CORRECTLY?

It may seem like a pretty straightforward concept – squirt some cleanser into your hands, scrub your face, rinse with water, and dry off. Most of us do this everyday (hopefully twice a day!) and don’t put too much thought or effort into it. But, there actually are a few face-washing mistakes that many of us do every time we begin our skin care routine. Keep reading to find out if you’re guilty of any!

IMG_5514

Mistake #1: Your hands are dirty.

It may seem silly, but before you wash your face, you NEED to wash your hands. In fact, you shouldn’t even think about touching your face without freshly-cleansed hands ever. It’s so important to expose your face to as little bacteria as possible, and we all know how nasty our hands can be.

e89f8597-4455-498b-872f-d68fcee4b68d

Mistake #2: The water is too hot.

Since cooler weather is quickly approaching, it’s very tempting to use hot water when washing your face. Truth is, hot water washes away skin’s protective oils, leaving it dry, tight, and itchy. Instead, use lukewarm water – the lower temperature is much less harsh on your delicate skin.

IMG_7670

Mistake #3: You’re only washing once.

When you only wash your face once, you’re really only cleansing the dirt, makeup, and bacteria that’s on the surface of your skin. To get an even deeper clean, wash a second time to get the oil and bacteria that’s hiding down in your pores. I cleanse my skin twice every night with my Extraction Cleanser – it leaves my skin feeling amazing.

IMG_7058

Mistake #4: You’re not following up.

So you’ve taken my advice above and correctly washed your face – great job! But, is that all you’re doing? Cleansing just provides a blank canvas for the rest of your skincare regimen. Even if you’re extremely low-maintenance, be sure to follow up with a toner (to balance skin tone and minimize pores) and a moisturizer for your best skin possible.

Are you committing any of these cleansing crimes? -xo Kayla

Not too heavy or light, it just feels refreshing around my eyes.”

Hayley of Styled & Taylored doesn’t need to wear much makeup anymore after starting her Enza skin care regimen: “Before beginning my Enza regimen I was wearing liquid foundation to work everyday to cover the imperfections.  All I wanted was to get back to feeling comfortable with wearing powder foundation only during the week, but my little dark spots were seriously holding me back.  I was super self conscious about it, and now I can officially say that I am fine with minimal makeup for work!  I feel like my skin has a glow that it’s never had before.” Read her full review here and find out what products she’s using!

Gypsy Tan

“I have been using the products for 2 straight weeks and I see such a positive change in my skin already… Instructions were included for my specific skin care regimen. THE BEST SHADOW FOR YOUR EYE COLOR

Whether you’re a blue-eyed babe or a brown-eyed girl, I’ve done some research and found the best eye shadows for your specific eye color. Keep reading to find out what you should be wearing!

Blue eyes.

Cara-Delevingne-BRONZE-EYE

Since they’re lighter in general, neutral and light tones work best for blue eyes. Soft shades with warm undertones are the most flattering on blue eyes, so think corals, golds, champagnes and anything with orange undertones. Cara Delevingne knows how to make her eyes smolder.

Brown eyes.

kim-kardashian-makeup-15-1

With brown being a neutral color, dark eyes work well with and can pretty much pull off any color. (Lucky!) Bronzy-gold metallics will accentuate chocolate-brown eyes, while dark blue liner will create a softer look than black.

Green eyes.

scu1

Green eyes look flawless with purple liners and shadows. Any shade of plum, violet, purple, or amethyst brings out brightness for a piercing look. Green also compliments red on the color wheel, so shades with reddish undertones look amazing, too.

Hazel eyes.

Best-celebrity-makeup-looks-for-green-eyes_09

With this lovely mix of brown and green, hazel eyes look best with metallic golds and olive greens with yellow undertones. This brings out the lighter flecks in eyes. Hazel eyes also look gorgeous with lighter shades of purple.

MAKE EYES LOOK BIGGER IN 3 EASY STEPS

If you haven’t noticed, big and bright eyes are one of the hottest trends right now. Everyone wants to get that bold, doe-eyed look. Since not all of us are blessed with Angelina Jolie almond-shaped eyes, it’s important to know some tips and tricks for getting that look. Here are 3 super easy ways to get bigger-looking eyes everyday:

IMG_3599

Shape up your brows. Nothing makes eyes pop quite like a pair of perfectly-shaped brows. Removing stray hairs and creating an arch will give serious definition to your eyes, making them appear larger. Think of your brows as being a frame for your eyes – keeping them groomed and filled in will make all the difference.

IMG_3598

Highlight your waterline. If you’re going for a smoky and ultra-sultry look, you’ll probably line this area with a dark color. Unfortunately, doing this makes your eyes look literally half their size. To make your eyes stand out, highlight your waterline with a white or nude pencil – this will instantly open them up and make them brighter. I’m using Jane Iredale’s Eye Pencil in White.

IMG_3596

Define your crease. Swiping a medium brown shadow into the creases of your eyes may sound original, but you honestly can’t go wrong. This will give your eyes more depth, causing them to stand out and appear bigger. Using a soft, fluffy brush, blend shadow starting from the inside corner of your crease all the way to the outer corner of your eye.

SPRING TRENDS I’M LOVING

I seriously cannot believe that it’s already Wednesday today – AND April Fool’s Day! Hopefully you didn’t fall for too many practical jokes.. Ha! Here are some of my favorite spring trends that I’m loving right now:

Girly sneakers.

ZDS_1257

Every girl needs a pair of practical shoes that are SUPER cute, right? That’s why I cannot get enough of all the feminine sneakers I’ve been seeing this season. I’m obsessing over my newest shoe purchase – these Rocket Dog Penny White Eyelet shoes I found ON SALE! Best day ever.

Self-tanner.

ZDS_1259

Warmer weather means showing off a little more skin, and who doesn’t want a little sun-kissed glow? We all know how bad the sun is for our skin, but that doesn’t mean we have to be pasty white either! My favorite self-tanner is Jane Iredale’s Tantasia – it’s super moisturizing and doesn’t smell horrible.

SKINTIP: Be sure to exfoliate your skin before applying self-tanner, as it will look much more natural and even. Try using Enza Essential’s Shea Butter Body Polish in the shower!

Yellow.

Fluorescent_Yellow_Fergie_Pumps

This bright color has been the talk of spring and I couldn’t be ANY happier with it. Yellow is one of my favorites! After that cold and snowy winter we all had, nothing adds more prettiness and fun to an outfit like a pop of yellow.

‘No makeup’ makeup look.

ZDS_1261

The natural, makeup-free beauty look is a super hot trend this spring that is making a big statement. BB Creams and Tinted Moisturizers are getting lots of attention, along with clear skin. But, when isn’t flawless skin a trend?? To help you and your skin look amazing without makeup, be sure to invest in a great cleanser, toner, and moisturizer, and use them everyday in the morning and at night!

Messy braids.

ZDS_1260

Braids are ALWAYS at the top of my trends list, but especially this spring! I love how versatile this hairstyle is – you can wear a braid to work during the day or rock one in the evening for a chic date night look. And my motto is: the messier the braid, the better. The “undone” hair trend is HUGE this spring and I’m completely loving it!

SPRING INSPIRATIONS

Happy Monday Beauties! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I cannot explain to you all how EXCITED I am that it’s already March! Spring is one of my favorite times of the year, and here is what currently inspires me about the season!

Orange lips.

orange-lipstick-makeup-trends-2011

Spring is the perfect time to try out bright, bold, and colorful lip shades, so why not make a serious statement? Orange lips are always a great color to pair with the early season trends and I know I’ll be rocking this color very frequently! Will you be trying it out?

Wedges.

IMG_4734

Ahhhh – I’m so excited to wear wedges again! No other pair of shoes can make me feel quite as pretty as a cute pair of wedges. They are so versatile for a day out shopping or a night with the girls. I think I’m going try on all my pairs when I get home tonight….

Fresh fruit.

Fusing water with fruit makes eight glasses so much easier!

Springtime LITERALLY makes me healthier because of all the fresh fruits and veggies that will be in season. One of my favorite treats is throwing some diced fruit into my water – not only does it taste delicious, but my skin looks fantastic from being hydrated! To moisturize your skin even more, try using Enza Essentials Hydra Gel.

Exfoliation.

IMG_4841IMG_4833

To be completely honest, I LOVE spring cleaning. And I don’t just mean going through my closet and getting rid of those knit sweaters from high school, but spring cleaning my skin too! Exfoliating your skin is so important for springtime, as you need to slough off those dead winter skin cells that are collecting on your skin. My Fine Facial Polish does an amazing job of gently getting deep down into my pores, while still leaving my skin oh-so-soft.

Floral prints.

bd834a-l

Nothing says blooming flowers, fresh air, and sunshine quite like floral prints. I always feel so feminine and chic in anything floral print, so I’ll be wearing PLENTY of the pattern this season. Also, I think it’s necessary that I buy these super cute crop tops from A’Gaci.

What are you most looking forward to this spring? -xo Kayla

BEST BEAUTY LOOKS: NYFW 2015

With New York Fashion Week 2015 coming to an end, it’s time to take a peek at not only the actual fashion itself, but the beauty looks that flood the runway. Here are my top five favorite beauty trends from this season:

Zac Posen, Matching Red Lips and Nails

54bc18fe1169f_-_hbz-beauty-zac-posen-ss2015

If you’ve been following my blog lately, you know that I’ve been obsessing over a bold red lip (shout-out to my fave Margi) this season. It’s just such a classic look that you can’t help but love! And what’s better than a red pout? A red pout with red nails, of course. This is seriously a match made in heaven. A pair this chic looks great on anyone.

BCBG, Bold Brows and Cocoa Eyes

54bc18f5bad8e_-_hbz-backstage-beauty-bcbg-ss2015-lg

Nothing says fierce like a bold brow in my opinion, and we all know that defined brows are SUPER hot right now. I’m also loving how minimal yet beautiful this brown shadow looks on her lids – it’s so simple but it looks so flawless! And can we take a moment to appreciate this model’s skin?? She’s actually glowing. With a complexion like that, she has to be using Enza’s Liquid Gold. Seriously.

Michael Kors, Windblown Braids

54bc190261394_-_hbz-beauty-ss2015-michale-kors

Ummm, yes please. I’ve always been a lover of braids, especially ones that are ok to wear messy and sloppy. This effortless ‘do can be worn for any occasion – whether you’re going to dinner with the girls or lounging at home with the BF.

*STYLE TIP: To get that bouncy, windblown look, spray hair first with dry shampoo. This will give strands LOTS of added volume and make it easier to work with.

Tanya Taylor, Bright Orange Lips

54bc1902d1008_-_hbz-beauty-tanya-taylor-ss2015

Although my heart belongs to a glam red lip, this bright orange color looks AMAZING. It’s the perfect shade for spring! It looks so good next to her pale complexion – just another reason to wear SPF every single day.

Anna Sui, Glittery Eyes

54bc190182f2f_-_hbz-beauty-anna-sui-ss2015-lg

When in doubt, add glitter. This sparkly look hit the runway of Anna Sui and shined so very bright. I love the placement of the glitter on her eyes – it really opens them up and draws attention to the shape of her eyes. I also like that the rest of her face is naked and free of makeup. But, when your skin is as smooth as hers, you don’t need to wear any. If you want super soft skin, try using Enza Essentials Vitamin C Serum.

GET GLAMOROUS IN 3 MINUTES

It’s 6:30 on a Friday night and you’re JUST getting done with work. You were supposed to meet your girlfriends at the restaurant 15 minutes ago. You have your entire makeup bag with you but don’t have time for a fresh new face. What should you do? Focus just on your eyes and lips! Here’s how:

ZDS_0604

First, use an eye pencil to draw a thick line into your upper lashes and another line slightly under your lower lashes. I love using Jane Iredale’s Eye Pencil in Basic Black. It lasts super long and goes on smooth.

ZDS_0611

Next, take a cotton swab and smudge the liner, making it look like a subtle smokey eye. Do this on the top and bottom lash line.

ZDS_0615

Finally, with 30 seconds to spare, apply your favorite red or berry lipstick for an evening on the town. I’m wearing the color Renee. (Jane Iredale, $25)

Voila! An elegant glam look in only 3 minutes. Now you’re ready to meet up with the girls! -xo Kayla
